Growing up as a WWE fan there were many great superstars to cheer for, but growing up in Canada there is really one superstar more than any other that you just have to cheer for... and that was always Bret Hart!
The Hart Foundation was always the group of wrestlers there were respected and cheered for all across Canada because the Hart Family is born and raised in Calgary Alberta Canada, and they were all trained in the infamous Stu Hart Dungeon. Not all members were born into the Hart Family but other wrestlers did marry into the Hart Family, most notably the British Bulldog Davey Boy Smith.
The Hart Family started out in Stu's Stampede Wrestling in Calgary, but when Vince bought Stampede Wrestling he took most of their wrestlers including the Hart brothers. The biggest star would eventually be Bret Hart, although if you read Bret's book it almost didn't happen. Vince didn't want Bret because Vince said he was too small, but Bret took the steroids and got big enough and was signed by Vince. But then Bret almost quit because Vince wanted to make him a cowboy that rode a horse to the ring with a cowboy hat and the whole works. Bret refused and Vince said fine whats your idea, and Bret said The Hart Foundation! They had trouble coming up with what to wear and they randomly tried on pink tights one day and Vince loved it and that became their look. Then during their first interview Bret was so nervous he wore sunglasses to cover his eyes, again Vince loved it and said that would be his trademark and then said it made him look like a 'Hitman' and the rest is history.
Later, when Bret and The Anvil were a successful tag team, Bret was in a bar with other wrestlers and saw an old general on the TV wearing an old jacket with the tassels on the shoulder and Bret liked that look so much he pointed it out to Anvil and said that's our new look, Anvil wasn't impressed lol.
Years later, after Bulldog had joined the family and Owen had made it to the WWE, the family eventually joined together and all wore the trademark leather jackets, with each of their names on the back: Hitman, Anvil, Bulldog, and Owen.
Unfortunately, Bret left for WCW and along with him went Anvil and Bulldog, leaving Owen on his own. As we all know, Owen would die when he fell from the rafters and crashed onto the ring turnbuckle. Bulldog would get body-slammed in WCW onto a metal trap door in the ring and get so badly injured he became addicted to painkillers, which caused his wife to leave him and lead to his eventual death. Anvil just became a drunk and drug addict and was out of wrestling. Last but not least, Bret was kicked in the head by Bill Goldberg which gave him a career ending concussion and lead to a stroke that paralyzed the left side of Bret's body. It would take him years to recover.
Shockingly though, Bret recovered and decided to return to the WWE. He walked out, called out HBK and made up. Bret then challenged Vince to a match at Wrestlemania and kicked Vince's ass with his entire family there to help him!
Bret then went out to win the United States Championship and also helped to form the "Hart Dynasty" with Tyson Kidd, the last wrestler ever trained in the Hart Family Dungeon, the British Bulldog's son David Hart Smith, and the Anvil's daughter Natalya.
Natalya would go on to become a Divas Champion, but I think the most notable accomplishment was when the Hart Dynasty won the Tag Team Championship! Prior to this there had been separate tag titles on Raw and Smackdown, but recently they had been combined into the Unified Tag Team Championship. However, they still had two separate sets of belts. Once the Hart Dynasty won those titles however, Bret came out to present the Hart Dynasty with new Unified Championship Belts.
Personally I was hoping the belts would go back to the original belts that the Hard Foundation had held in the 80s and 90s but that wasn't the case. The new belts were round with Roman helmets on them. I guess this would be a throwback to the Roman gladiators who basically invented wrestling. If you have seen the show Spartacus: Blood and Sand or Spartacus: Gods of the Arena you will see many similarities to today's wrestling. Most notably the fact that the champions would all year belts around their waists to indicate that they were the champion!
Anyways, this was great, but only for a short time. WWE quickly ruined the Hart Dynasty. Bret left the company again, the team split up. WWE just recently fired David Hart Smith (Harry). Tyson Kidd is wasted and WWE has him loose to Sin Cara almost on a weekly bases. Natalya was managing young new Divas like AJ but now is managing Beth Phoenix who lost at SummerSlam.
I think this is a total waste. I think most wrestling fans, especially in Canada would love to see the Hart Family represented proudly in the WWE again!
I also thought it would have been great to see David Hart Smith in the Union Jack tights, even if they decided to make the colours pink and black to stay with the Dynasty colours. Wouldn't it have been nice if the WWE had brought back the European Championship, which was souly created for the British Bulldog and on one of their European tours had David Hart Smith, in the British Bulldog colours, win the European Championship and retire the belt properly!
Natalya should be the Divas Champion, and they could bring back the Cruiserweight Championship, which should be brought back just for Sin Cara, and Tyson Kidd could win that title as well, since they fight every week as I stated before.
Most of all, they should be holding the Tag Titles that they created and debuted. Triple H has been struggling to rebuild the Tag Team division, if so why not start by bringing back the Hart Dynasty? All the WWE would need to do is re-sign David Hart Smith!
A dream match for me would be to see the Hart Dynasty vs the Motor City Machine Guns! Maybe even Beer Money, who Triple H is reportedly trying to sign!
I thought it would have been cool if the new Hart Dynasty members wore the old leather Hart Foundation jackets too. Bret would still wear Hitman as he managed the team. Natalya could wear her father's jacket which said Anvil. David Hart Smith would obviously wear his fathers jacket which said Bulldog. And I know it may be a stretch or not really what the WWE would want to do, aka remind the fans of Owen Hart, but Tyson Kidd could wear his jacket, which I think may have said Rocket on the back.
Anyways, that's just my opinion, if you agree or disagree let me know what you think!
